Celebrating Child Nutrition Employees 2025

From October 6–10, Minnetonka Schools recognized our Nutrition Services Department by celebrating Child Nutrition Employee Appreciation Week. These dedicated staff members nourish our students and fuel their learning every day.

Across the district, Nutrition Services team members bring care, consistency, and joy to their roles. Zina Hilgers, Cook Manager at Minnewashta Elementary, has been with the district for sixteen years. “My favorite part of my job is coming to work daily to provide a nutritious and quality meal for the students—and the looks on their faces when they know it’s their favorite meal,” Zina shared. She also appreciates the flexibility of the school-year schedule, which allows her to enjoy summer travel with her family.

Spencer West, a Kitchen Helper at Excelsior Elementary, has supported Minnetonka students since 2011. He enjoys connecting with students during lunch and helping with dietary accommodations. “I like helping people and being a productive member of a team,” Spencer said. “I enjoy coming to work every day and feel lucky to work with such wonderful people.”

Maria Crouser, Cook Helper at Clear Springs Elementary, joined the team last year when her son started Kindergarten. “I feel like part of the community—not only working with a great team but meeting wonderful people who really care,” Maria shared. Her favorite part of the job is serving lunch to Kindergarteners and watching them grow and gain confidence.

We are deeply grateful for Zina, Spencer, Maria, and all our Nutrition Services staff for their commitment to student health and happiness. Join us in thanking your school’s nutrition team this week!
